It’s a book that raises a lot of questions and I found myself thinking about for a long time after I finished. The novel is at times emotional and thought-provoking and if you do choose to read it - I encourage you to find a friend to also read it (or suggest it for your book club). The story is set in the 80’s and also switches perspectives between Jake through his summer in the past and the present day. I’m a sucker for nostalgia and I enjoyed all the little touches of being a kid in the 80’s growing up in Niagara Falls. While it has elements of ghost stories, it’s a coming-of-age story at its heart. Finalist for the Rogers Writers Trust Fiction Prize. It’s an intriguing novel with a bit more weight than a “beach read” but would be a fun addition to a camping trip or relaxing on your patio. A short, infectious, and bittersweet coming-of-age story in the vein of Stranger Things and Stand by Me about a group of misfit kids who spend an unforgettable summer investigating local ghost stories and urban legends.
